noelle bruce bio
With absolutely no writing credentials of any kind, Noelle Bruce is the debut author of the novel HURRICANE. She is a psychotherapist with a Master of Social Work degree and is neurodivergent. Noelle uses her experience studying and qualifying for diagnoses in the DSM to portray mental illness precisely and viscerally. Never experienced a panic attack before? You’ll feel like you have after reading her work…in a good way. She finds joy in spotlighting the magic of identities that have been historically overlooked as protagonists, especially fellow quirky queer characters.
When she isn’t hunched over her word processor, Noelle delights in reading tarot, propagating planties, and singing anything from opera to rapping.
HURRICANE synopsis
HURRICANE explores the convoluted friendship between odd couple Aspen De Havilland—a demisexual, neurodivergent software engineer—and Dr. Abel Ramírez Padilla—a Mexican American psychiatrist and psychologist.
When she is summoned to her toxic childhood home for a funeral, Aspen must grapple with the traumatic history of the family she hasn’t seen in thirteen years; but when Aspen discovers romantic feelings for Abel, she is forced to get her life together before he makes a new one with someone else.
Abel, meanwhile, has always carried a torch for Aspen, but understood loving her was akin to self-immolation. Still, the decision between duty and destruction isn’t so defined as he risks his family, a stable romance, and his values for one night with Aspen.
